Is a capacitor contactor the same as a normal AC contactor?
No. A capacitor contactor is selected for capacitor-switching duty, commonly described as AC-6b, and may include early-make contacts and series resistors to control inrush. A standard motor contactor is normally selected for AC-3 or another motor duty. Similar dimensions or a similar coil voltage do not make the devices interchangeable.
Why are early-make contacts and resistors used?
